Activities developed by ASVAFER
At asvafer we carry out all kinds of activities to promote and divulge the railway, in all its facets, among which we can highlight the following:
- The railway exhibition that we have held annually for over 30 years at the begining of september. This exhibition is a sample of most of our activities.
- Railway modelling. We have models of various scales, some that we could call "generic", which do not represent specific landscapes, and others, which we will call "representative", which show the railway heritage of Valladolid, both current and already disappeared. One facet of this activity is the so-called rided modelling, in which the largest scale trains can transport people.
- The restoration of railway material, both static and rolling, means that asvafer has a big collection of preserved railway material.
- asvafer has a big library with books and documents on railway content, we also subscribe to all railway magazines. In addition, until a few years ago we published a magazine whose indexes can be consulted here and even most of its issues have been digitalized.
- At our asvafer's headquarters we have a driving simulator for an electric locomotive, which was donated by the Madrid Railway Museum a few years ago. We have managed to get it working and sometimes we hold simulation sessions for members. It is also used at exhibitions, where some visitors dare to be drivers for a few minutes.
- We are advocating the creation of a Railway Museum in Valladolid. At the moment, we have three rooms at our headquarters expressly dedicated to this purpose.
- Defense of the railway heritage of Valladolid, this includes both the railway stuff, previously mentioned, and the real estate heritage, which in Valladolid is represented by both the Steam Locomotive Depot and the majestic Brick Arch.
- asvafer attends events that defend the railway. Such is the case of Toral en Tren, a festival held annually in the Bercian town of Toral de los Vados.
- Other events are also organised, such as railway content talks, trips, etc.
